Circleville City Schools Back-to-School Fast Facts for 2019

1st Day 2017 025.JPG

The summer is quickly coming to a close and the start of a new school year is almost upon us. We are excited to welcome back students for the 2019-2020 school year and have a lot of important information to pass along to our families.

When does school start?

  • Grades 6 and 9 will have their first day of school on Tuesday, August 13th from 7:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
  • Grades 1-5, 7-8, and 10-12: On Wednesday, August 14th students in these grade levels will join the 6th and 9th graders for the first full day of school in 2019-2020. Circleville Elementary School will start school from 9:05 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m. (Doors Open at 8:45 a.m.); Circleville Middle School and Circleville High School will start at 7:40 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m. (Doors open at 7:30 a.m.)
  • Preschool and Kindergarten: will start school the week of August 19th in staggered starts. Approximately half of Kindergarten and Preschool students will start on Monday, August 19th with the other half of those grade levels starting on Tuesday, August 20th. The first combined day for these grades will be Wednesday, August 21st. Families will be contacted by the school to notify them which day their preschool or kindergarten student will be starting that week.

CES and CMS Open House Dates and Food Truck Fest

Join us August 12th and August 13th for some family fun on our back-to-school nights and featuring Food Truck vendors!

  • Monday, August 12th: Grades 3-5 Teacher Meet and Greet (5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.); Grade 6 Open House at CMS (5-7 p.m. with opening informational meeting starting at 5 p.m. in the gym)
  • Tuesday, August 13th: Grades K-2 Teacher Meet and Greet (5:30-6:30 p.m.); Grades 7-8 Open House (5-7 p.m.)
  • Friday, August 16th: Preschool Open House (5:30-6:30 p.m.)

These events, particularly with our elementary students, are helpful for families to get school supplies to school so students do not need to bring everything on the bus the first day, answer transportation questions, meet your teacher, and get familiar with your child’s building for the year!

Food Trucks will be available in the middle lot between the high school and elementary school from 4:30-7 p.m. both nights featuring Johnson’s Ice Cream, Taesty’s, Cazuelas, City Classics, Late Night Slice, and more!

1st Day 2017 016.JPG

On Friday, July 26th, Circleville Elementary School class lists were posted on CirclevilleCitySchools.org, Facebook, and Twitter. While some homeroom assignments are subject to change, parents and guardians can view the lists online at the link here.

CHS Schedule Pick Up Dates

Circleville High School students will be able to pick up their schedules on Tuesday, August 6th and Wednesday, August 7th from 9-11 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. both days in the high school office.

Note: Schedules being distributed on these days are for grades 10-12 only. 9th grade students will receive their schedules on August 13th during freshman orientation.

Supply Lists

We have had a lot of questions about supply lists and are here to help! Officially, only Circleville Elementary School posts a grade level specific supply list year-to-year (pictured below). At Circleville Middle School and Circleville High School there are no supply lists. School supplies are typically limited to items such as folders, pencils, pens, binders, bookbags, and ear buds as much of the work is completed on student ChromeBooks as a part of our 1:1 technology initiative. In the event a unique project warrants a specific school supply at the middle school or high school level, your child will be notified well in advance during the first few weeks of school.

Transportation and Alternate Transportation Forms

Families of students who will be bused during the 2019-2020 school year will begin receiving their transportation cards with pick-up and drop-off time estimates (along with bus stop locations and bus numbers) beginning the week of August 5th. It should be noted that all times are approximate and pick-up times and drop-off times may fluctuate by 10-15 minutes during the first 5 days of transportation as drivers become familiar with the new routes and as we spend extra time ensuring students are on the correct bus – particularly with our youngest Tigers at Circleville Elementary School.

Additionally, Alternate Transportation forms for students who will be bused home to a sitter or another location other than their residence after school are due by this Friday, August 2nd. Forms were mailed home in early July to families of students with existing alternative transportation arrangements from last year.

Online Forms with OneView

2019-06-11 13_32_58-Circleville Parent Portal

This fall we are rolling out the parent portal OneView for all things back-to-school forms. Gone are the “ancient” ways of filling out multiple back to school forms by hand per the number of students in your family. In its place, the OneView portal will now enable parents and guardians to fill out forms electronically with a secure access code that links their student to their account. After this initial year’s rollout, information will be carried over from year to year and saved so families will only need to sign off on annual waivers, read handbooks, and update existing address, contact, and medical information at the start of each school year.

OneView Overview

  • How to access it – At the link (here), and located on CirclevilleCitySchools.org under parent resources on every page, parents will create a login for their account and link their children to their account with a secure access invitation code unique to their student. These codes will be distributed to residential parents at Circleville High School starting the week of August 5th and all other schools will be available for in-person pickup at back-to-school open houses August 12th and 13th. All remaining OneView access/invitation code letters with the secure access code will be mailed home during the first week of school.
  • Parent dashboard – Once your account has been created, parents will have a OneView Portal Dashboard with family-friendly links to EZ Pay, ProgressBook, District Forms, Academic Calendars, the school nurse, and lunch menus on the left; district and building news in the middle; and a calendar of events on the right.
  • Shared parenting – It should be noted that only the parent of residence (residential parent) will have editing access to fill out the online forms. Parents/guardians who are not residential parents will still have rights to view student information in the portal, but they will be “view only.” In instances of shared parenting, we encourage dual parents and guardians to work together to ensure student information is accurate and to the specific needs of their children.
  • Internet Access – Whether it be internet activity or just ease of use, we understand sometimes making a switch like this can be a hurdle and we are here to help! On both open house nights, August 12th and August 13th families will have the opportunity to come in and fill out online forms at the school. At that time, we will also have staff available to assist with any questions you might have during the account registration process. Additionally, our friends at the Pickaway County Library have volunteered to help us with this transition by having resources on hand to assist with registration at the library.
