Your August Back to School primer

August 2017 graphic

There comes a point in every parent’s summer when they recognize school is just around the corner and Mrs. Davis had this epiphany just this past weekend.  In most houses this typically raises some anxiety and sets into motion a list of things that must be accomplished prior to that first day. So let me take the opportunity to check a few of those items off your list:

Wait, when is the first day of school???

I’m glad you asked! Students in Grades 1-12 will return on Thursday, August 17th.

*Please note that 6th Grade and 9th Grade students will attend on part of Wednesday, August 16th and you will receive information from the building on the specifics of this day for your student.

The district calendar can be found here for more info: District Calendar 2017-2018cropped-circleville-elem-photo.jpg

Are there new policies or things I need to be aware of for my child this year?

Yes, we adjusted the start and end times to improve our organizational and transportation procedures, those hours are listed above. Also, the state passed a brand new law (House Bill 410) regarding student attendance. This is drastically different than the previous policy and now tracks each student’s individual attendance by hours missed (as opposed to the old ‘days format’) regardless of whether that absence is considered excused or not. Here is a link to that legislation via the Ohio Department of Education: House Bill 410

Berger Image

Berger Health System and CCS are partnering this year to better serve the health needs of our students via the Berger Tiger Care Clinic which will be housed at CES. Berger will supply a Certified Nurse Practitioner that will have the ability to assess and treat CCS students. Collectively we recognize how hard it is to find and get into a high quality healthcare professional. We also recognize how quality healthcare can keep students active and engaged in school and home, thus increasing their chances at success. CCS will still employ our wonderful Nurse’s (Mrs. Karen Borland and Mrs. Jaime McKeivier), but they will now have added supports and resources to offer parents on the district campus to keep our students healthy. Nothing about this clinic is mandatory and Berger will not see any students prior to receiving parental permission and appropriate documentation. You will receive more on this clinic and the documentation process once school begins.

How do I see what is happening in my student’s building?

Another solid question! First I hope you offer to volunteer, visit, chaperone, etc., but we know families are very busy and that is why we use so many platforms to keep parents informed.

Class DoJo– CES and CMS staff members will utilize Class DoJo to keep you informed on a daily basis, please make sure you sign up!

Twitter-Each building and numerous clubs and organizations have their own Twitter accounts where they provide daily/weekly pictures and information.

And for District Info follow the Superintendent’s Office @CVCSD_Supt

As always please never hesitate to contact me with any questions as I want to keep you as informed as possible about the many exciting things happening to benefit the students at CCS.
